Assistive Uploads: Set Up Your Camera and Phone
Connect your camera to your phone, photograph each access card, and let KeySnapshots sort a whole shoot into galleries.
What Assistive Uploads does
Assistive Uploads turns a whole shoot into galleries for you. You photograph each customer's Photo Access Card along with their photos, import everything at once, and KeySnapshots reads the cards and sorts the photos. You check the result before anything goes live.
- Reads the QR code on each card you photograph.
- Groups photos by subject, using the time each photo was taken.
- Never shares photos from a subject without a card.
- Lets you leave photos out, move them, and change prices before publishing.
Before your first shoot: connect your camera to your phone
Assistive Uploads works with the photos on your phone. If you shoot with a camera, set it up to send photos to your phone automatically. Most cameras pair over Bluetooth and send photos over Wi-Fi using the camera maker's free app.
- Install your camera maker's app on your phone, for example Canon Camera Connect, Nikon SnapBridge, Sony Creators' App or Fujifilm XApp.
- Follow the app's steps to pair your camera with your phone.
- Turn on automatic transfer, so new photos are sent to your phone while you shoot.
- Set the transfer size to the original or full-size image. Some apps send small copies by default, and customers should get full-quality photos.
- Take a test photo and check that it appears in your phone's photo library.
Check your camera's date and time
Photos are grouped by the time saved in each photo, so set your camera's clock correctly. If you shoot with two cameras, set them to the same time.
Set your upload defaults
In Settings, under Upload defaults, choose the price new galleries start with, whether you photograph the card before or after each customer's photos, and how long a pause starts a new subject (2 minutes unless you change it). You confirm these at the start of every session, and you can still change the price of any single gallery.
At the shoot: photograph the card
Take one photo of the customer's Photo Access Card for each customer you photograph. The card's QR code is what connects their photos to their gallery.
- Photograph the card before or after the customer's photos, whichever matches your setting.
- Hold the card flat and fill most of the frame, so the QR code is sharp and easy to read.
- Photos with no card in the same burst of shooting are never shared, so test shots and photos you decide not to keep stay private.
- When you photograph customers back to back, keep to your card timing every time, so each card is matched with the right photos.
Import and publish
- One time only: in Settings, under Upload defaults, turn on Assistive Uploads.
- In the studio, open Upload and choose Assistive Uploads.
- Confirm your price and settings for this session.
- Select Choose photos and pick every photo from the shoot, including the photos of the cards.
- Check each gallery. Galleries that must be fixed before publishing are shown first. Tap a photo to leave it out, or use Move to put it in another gallery.
- Open Not shared to see photos without a card. Move any you want to share into a gallery, or assign a code to them.
- Select Publish and keep the page open until every gallery shows Published.
If something looks wrong
- A card was not read: open Not shared, select Assign a code, type the code from the card, and confirm that it matches the card.
- Photos are split into the wrong groups: change the pause at the top of the review screen. A longer pause keeps more photos together.
- A code can't be used: it may already be in use, or it may be mistyped. Check the code on the card, or use a different code.
- Some photos did not upload: select Try the rest again. Photos that already uploaded are not sent twice.
